Railcards: what they are and how much they save

O que fazer com isso

What to do with this

Check current prices and eligibility for each railcard type on nationalrail.co.uk before buying.

What does a railcard actually save you?

A railcard is an annual discount card sold by the UK rail industry that typically takes a third off most Standard and First Class fares (some restrictions apply at peak times for certain railcards). It pays for itself after a handful of trips for most regular travellers.

The main types are 16-25 Railcard, 26-30 Railcard, Senior Railcard (60+), Disabled Persons Railcard, and Family & Friends Railcard (for up to four adults and four children travelling together, with a discount on children's fares too). Each has its own eligibility rule and price, set by the rail industry and reviewed periodically.

Where do you buy a railcard?

Railcards are sold on the National Rail website, at most staffed stations, and through train operator apps. Digital railcards (stored in an app) have mostly replaced the plastic card for new purchases.
